Old Testament Survey (10)
OLD01
In this module the student will
be introduced to the broad sweep of the
Old Testament world, surveying its
geographic, historic and political
background in order to place in context
further Old Testament studies.
From Eden to Egypt (10) OLD02
The
student will be introduced to the
importance of Genesis as the foundation
document of the Scriptures, placing it in
its context and showing its relevance to
God’s purpose. This module will trace
God’s dealings with mankind until
Israel’s exodus from Egypt.
The Birth of Israel (10)
OLD03
Israel’s exit from Egypt marked
the beginning of the history of a nation
through whom God was to bless the world.
This module looks at some of the key
aspects of Israel’s identity as a nation,
including their laws, festivals and
religious activities.
The Conquest and Settlement of Canaan
(10) OLD04
This is one of the most
exciting episodes of Israel’s history,
from the time of Moses to that of Samuel.
This module sets events both in the
context of God’s purpose for the whole of
mankind, and also in that of contemporary
events and social lifestyle.
The United Kingdom of Israel (10)
OLD05
The reigns of Saul, David and
Solomon mark a significant point in the
history of Israel and this module
examines their contribution to God’s plan
and the changing role of the nation
during this period.
The Divided Kingdom of Israel (10)
OLD06
This module examines the
history of Israel during its most
turbulent period and considers its role
among the surrounding nations. All is
seen within the context of contemporary
history and modern archaeology.
Post-exilic Writings (5)
OLD07
The period following the exile
in Babylon saw the Jews returning to
their homeland in continued fulfilment of
God’s promises. This module examines the
literature and evidences associated with
that period.
Hasmoneans and Herodians (5)
OLD08
Understanding the political and
social history of the period lying
‘between the testaments’ is essential to
a healthy understanding of the teaching
of the New Testament. This module
introduces the student to the main
characters, events and literature
involved.
Psalms (5) OLD09
This module
introduces the student to the structure,
character and contents of this Hebrew
songbook. A number of selected Psalms are
examined within their historic and
theological contexts.
Wisdom Literature (5) OLD10
With
an immense need for wisdom within every
aspect of mission work, this module takes
a look at these books to see what is on
offer for the servant of Christ today.
Isaiah (10) OLD11
Isaiah is
possibly best known through a few
quotations in the New Testament
scriptures, but this book is full of
richness and colour. This module
introduces the student to the prophet and
his writings within their original
context amidst a turbulent political
world.
Ezekiel (10) OLD12
Thought by
some to be a difficult book, this module
shows the writings of Ezekiel to be both
full of excitement and very relevant to
the work of mission today.
The Writings of Jeremiah (5)
OLD13
Jeremiah knew what it was to
suffer in the face of mission and has
much to teach those who seek to serve God
today. This module introduces the student
to the work of this faithful prophet.
The Twelve Prophets (10)
OLD14
This module covers the
remainder of the prophets with particular
emphasis on those not addressed in
previous modules. Each book is set in its
context with relevant practical lessons
for today.
Daniel (5) OLD15
At a time when
all seemed not to be going to plan,
Daniel assures his people that God is
always in control. This module looks at
the message of Daniel in the context of
God’s purpose for mankind in history.
